Hotels in Izmir

Izmir is Turkey’s third-largest city and its most easy-going: a long seafront promenade, sunny Aegean weather and a relaxed café culture. It is also an excellent base for exploring the ancient city of Ephesus and the beaches of the Çeşme peninsula.

For a city stay, Alsancak and the Kordon waterfront put you close to restaurants and evening walks by the sea, while Konak is the historic centre around the clock tower and the Kemeraltı bazaar. Beach lovers often split their trip with a few nights in Çeşme or Alaçatı, about an hour to the west.

Where to stay in Izmir

Alsancak

Izmir’s liveliest district, with the Kordon promenade, pedestrian streets, cafés and restaurants. A great choice for couples and first-time visitors who want to walk everywhere.

Konak

The historic centre around the Izmir Clock Tower and the Kemeraltı bazaar, with ferries across the bay and good transport links. Practical for shopping and sightseeing.

Karşıyaka

A residential district across the bay with a long seafront and a local feel, reached by frequent ferries. Often better value and quieter in the evenings.

Çeşme & Alaçatı

Around 80 km west of the city, known for clear water, sandy coves and stone houses in Alaçatı. The place to stay for a beach holiday rather than city sightseeing.

Best time to visit Izmir

April to June and September to October are the most pleasant months for sightseeing and trips to Ephesus. July and August are hot and are the peak season on the Çeşme peninsula. Winters are mild and rainy, with quieter hotels in the city.

Travel tips

  • Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) is about 18 km from the centre and connected by the İZBAN commuter train, buses and taxis.
  • Ephesus is roughly an hour south by car or train to Selçuk — plan a full day to see the ruins and the nearby House of the Virgin Mary.
  • Use the public ferries across the bay; they are cheap, frequent and offer some of the best views of the city.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best area to stay in Izmir?

How do I get from Izmir Airport to the city?

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) is around 18 km from the centre. The İZBAN commuter train connects the airport to the city, and taxis or transfers take about 25 to 35 minutes.

Should I stay in Izmir or Çeşme?
